Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug of the cox-2 inhibitor, that selectively inhibits the formation of prostaglandins and is used primarily to treat pain and other symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthrititis, and other joint and musculoskeletal conditions.

Celecoxib is prescribed as 100 mg or 200 mg oral capsules. It can be taken either once a day or twice a day. The usual dose for osteoarthritis is 100 or 200 mg a day, and the dose for rheumatoid arthritis is 200 mg once or twice a day. At doses up to 200 mg twice a day, celecoxib can be taken with or without food. Higher doses (400 mg twice a day) should be taken with food to improve absorption.
Some medicines may interact with celecoxib, or cause dangerous side effects when taken in conjunction with celecoxib. These medicines include: Certain blood pressure medicines called ACE inhibitors: Furosemide, Fluconazole or ketoconazole, Lithium, Phenytoin, Warfarin, Aspirin, NSAIDs.
