Doryx is widely used as an alternative medicine for those who are allergic to penicillin. It is used to treat many kinds of infections, like dental, skin, respiratory, and urinary tract infections. It also treats acne, Lyme disease, malaria, and certain sexually transmitted infections.
As with other antibiotics, treatment with doxycycline may result in a growth of bacteria that do not respond to this medication and can cause a secondary infection. Avoid prolonged exposure to sun especially if you are prone to sunburn, when taking Doryx. If you are taking Doryx over an extended period of time, your doctor will perform blood, kidney, and liver tests periodically. Doryx should not be given to children under 8 as this may retard their growth and could cause permanent discoloration of teeth.
100 - 200 mg twice daily. For children who are under 100 lbs. 2mg/ body weight, divided by 2, twice daily. Doryx work by preventing the growth of the invading bacteria. This results in the body's own immunity system fighting off the infection.
