Ketoconazole (generic Nizoral) tablet is used to treat fungal and yeast infections. It has also been used to treat Cushing's disease. Results of treatment may not be seen for 1 or 2 weeks and the duration of treatment may last up to several months. Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication that blocks the formation of cortisol in the adrenal glands and for that reason is used in the treatment of Cushing´s disease. It is also used to treat Cushing's disease.

If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist to explain them to you. Ketoconazole should be given with food. Do not give ketoconazole within 2 hours of an antacid. Blood tests or other medical evaluations may be required by your docotor to monitor progress and side effects. Store ketoconazole at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
Ketoconazole is used at a dose of 200 mg to 400 mg per day in treatment of oral and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis. The recommended dose is 400 mg/day in endemic mycoses due to dimorphic fungi in nonimmunosuppressed hosts. The dose can be increased to 600-800 mg/day in patients not responding to regular doses. However, high doses carry the risk of high incidence of toxicity.
You may experience diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, menstrual irregularities, impotence, increased sensitivity of eyes to light, breast tenderness or enlargement, or headache as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or get worse, contact your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: loss of appetite, dark urine, pale stools, yellowing of the eyes or skin, soreness of the mouth/tongue/throat, fatigue. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention.
